Crossing the border

Hunting in Ontario is easy and you can handle most of your licensing before you leave home.  We have put together a list of links that will help you thorugh the process of everyting from getting your Ontario Outdoors Card to licenses and permits.  And if you are lucky enough to fill a tag, we also have links for you to register your animal as well as your survey after the hunt.  Good luck!

Getting Your License 

 

Outdoors Card 

 

 We recommend that you get your hunting and fishing licenses and permits online ahead of time.

Ontario Outdoors Card – Every hunter and angler needs to have an outdoors card in order to get a liense to hunt or fish in Ontario.  Here is the link get a new one or renew yours if it has expired.  If you do not have this you will not get a license.

Importing Firearms into Canada

 

Importing your firearm or crossbow into Canada requires you to fill out some paperwork ahead of time and show at the border when you cross into the United States.

 

Successful Hunters

Export Permits:

Non-residents must have an Ontario Non-Resident Export Permit to export moose, deer, elk or black bear that were killed in Ontario, or their parts.

An ‘Export Licence for Furbearing Mammals and their Pelts’ is required to export any furbearing mammal (including a wolf or coyote) or their pelt out of Ontario whether it originated from Ontario or not. This also includes pelts from farmed animals, carcasses and live furbearing mammals. Royalties are payable on all wild Ontario furbearing mammals prior to their export from Ontario. You may obtain an export permit from a Ministry office.

Mandatory SurveyHunters bringing back deer and bear will need to purchase an export tag to be presented at US customs when you cross back into the US.  These are available at local license retail locations.

Passports
If you are traveling to Border Country Outfitters from the United States, you will need a valid passport to

Handguns and MSRs:
Handguns and MSRs are strongly regulated in Canada and may not be transported into Canada for hunting.
